Feed choices

As stated earlier, several companies make pellet feeds with the appropriate protein levels for whitetail. Usually it is best to mix these feeds with corn with a high corn to feed ratio.

If you are not interested in a high protein content, feed is not essentail. You can use corn exclusively which will make feeding over long periods of time much more affordable.

If you choose to use pellets, mixing allows deer time to acclimate to the feed as they eat the corn, a natural food source. As the feeder is refilled, a higher ratio of pellet feed can be added. In this way you can transition into the better nutritional quality in a way that will insure utilization.
